Artistry
Craft an artist’s statement and dedicate the year to creating a piece to showcase your skill, style, and voice as an artist. Receive feedback as you develop your work from your peers, mentor, circus coaches, and professionals in the field. Along the way you will have guidance in making artistic choices for costume and makeup design, musicality, and staging; learning to use these elements to support and elevate your performance. At the end of the year there will be a culminating performance presented to the circus community.
Community
One of the greatest assets to a performer is their community. You will share your mentorship experience with other developing circus artists who will become your collaborators. The learning and growing and creating you experience together will continue past the final presentation, forming a professional circus community that will launch you towards your future. You will also have access to our guest lecturers; professionals in their fields who will provide guidance to your process and will become your first professional contacts.
Industry
Being a circus artist is more than having an amazing act. You will build the tools needed to be a successful circus professional. Experts will guide you through developing the skills and materials necessary to accomplish your goals, including topics such as creating your CV, resume, reel, and website, financial accounting for performers, and grant and contract writing.
Who We Are
The Young Adult Circus Arts Mentorship Program will prepare young adults ages 18-26 for careers as circus performing artists by providing artistic and professional guidance, enabling participants to build the tools needed to present themselves as professionals in the field, and fostering a community of collaboration for young adults building their art and career.
